The Donkey
We have always heard that the donkey is a clumsy animal without intelligence. Donkey ears were a common punishment for students who did not stand out intellectually in school. And the Democratic candidate Andrew Jackson was nicknamed “Donkey” for his clumsiness and low intelligence. However, he embraced it proudly as a symbol of his campaign, highlighting the donkey’s qualities of hard work and modesty. Also it was the donkey that carried the Virgin Mary. In the United States, people who are poor are considered to be uneducated and therefore dumb (donkeys). What is valued more is the intellectual persona rather than the laborer. Despite the hard work of this social class they do not standout as smart unfortunately rooted from inequalities in education. In many parts of the world, these animals are used as a mean of transportation and cargo. On the United States border the term mule (the offspring of a male donkey and a female horse) is used to refer to people that transport drugs illegally into USA territory. Another example is Pinocchio who grew donkey ears because of his lies. I wonder if lies were visible as donkey ears, how many politicians would grow them. The materials used in my donkey are recycled and represent the lies that have been used to gain profit from people. |

The Elephant
The elephant is the biggest animal in the animal kingdom known for its intelligence. The German-born American caricaturist Thomas Nast considered to be the "Father of the American Cartoon” created the political symbol of the elephant for the Republican Party after its electoral defeat in 1877. The elephant symbolizes intelligence; it is submissive and easy to surrender. Despite these negative traits, Republicans have adopted the elephant as the symbol of their party. In Asian countries especially the Hindu religion has revered the elephant for many centuries for their obedience, ability to avoid repeating the same mistakes, respect and care for their community. However in United States the Republican Party is not known for supporting the real needs of 99% of their community. If we value intelligence, hard work and modesty equally, we will have a strong community. Unfortunately here our society minimizing unique cultural qualities and values starting at an early age. If we as a society combine the strengths and qualities of the Donkey and the Elephant - Democrats and Republicans |

Tea and Coffee Party
This arrangement means the opposite of what the tea has been a representation of in Boston and in national politics. The tea party instead of being a statement of community has been used as statement of rivalry. Tea has been used as a symbol of rebelión. For example, when the Americans rebelled from the British by dumping tea in the Boston Harbor. However, to me the tea party has been a time to sit down with other people as a community and enjoy conversation without imposing what type of drink each should enjoy. |
